Error message: An error occurred when QuickBooks tried to access the company file. Please try again. If the problem persists, contact Intuit Technical Support and provide them with the following error codes: (-6000, -83).

 

You do not have sufficient permissions to the specified folder. To use QuickBooks in a multi-user environment, you must have read/write access and create/delete rights to the folder where the company file is stored.

 

Possible causes of this error-

 

  • Company file is getting converted over the network from an earlier version of QuickBooks.
  • QuickBooks not installed properly.
  • Network server not having sufficient permissions.
  • QuickBooks getting blocked by the firewall.
  • A damaged shared folder or maybe the company file.
  • Company file has more than one host computer.
  • Using a non us version of windows or must have set wrong language settings.

1- You were trying to open a company file stored in the server.

 

Note- copy your company file to the desktop before repairing as repairing file on the server is harder.

 

Solution 1-Use file doctor.

  • Run QuickBooks File doctor.
  • When the process is finished try to use the company file.

 

Solution 2- Turn off all hosting computers that are accessing the file.

Scanning the company file.

 

In order to create a .nd file that store hosting information, you may need to scan the company file folder.

 

  • Press windows key on your keyboard, in the search box, enter QuickBooks Database Server Manager.
  • Click on QuickBooks Database Server Manager.
  • In the window of the server, manager click on Add Folder. Browse to your company file folder.
  • Click on the scan.
  • Click close when the scan is finished.

 

Verify Hosting-

 

  • Select the file menu in QuickBooks and select utilities.

  • Open run window by pressing Windows Key + R and enter services.MSC and press enter.
  • Now may see this version of services.
  • QuickBooks 2018: QuickBooksDB28
  • QuickBooks 2017: QuickBooksDB27
  • QuickBooks 2016: QuickBooksDB26

 

  • Make sure automatic startup in on and services are currently started.
  • In case services are not started apply right click and select start.
  • If the automatic startup is not enabled double click on service and select automatically.
  • In the row of QBDBMgrN.exe make sure that column for user name is correct.

Entries according to the username-

  • For QuickBooks 2018 -QBDataServiceUser28
  • For QuickBooks 2017-QBDataServiceUser27.
  • For QuickBooks 2016-QBDataServiceUser26

 

Using the company file from a different location.

 

  • Open company file with the host computer.
  • Locate the folder of company file.
  • If server Install is already installed then go to the option of copy file to another location.
  • Open the company file that is receiving the message.
  1. Verify company file is able to open.
  2. If unable to open then proceed to next step.
  • If instructed to rebuild the file go for it.

 

  • Changing the file location.
  • Go to the folder containing the company file.
  • On company, file applies right click and select copy.
  • Go to the desktop and press ctrl+v to paste.
  • Now open QuickBooks and open the company file.
  • If opened successfully then copy the file back to original location.

 

2- You were trying to open the company file which was stored on the Linux server.

Solution 1- Connection verification.

 

  • In United.conf file specifies the directory by simply configuring the Database server manager in Linux. And then restart the application on the windows client.
  • Server Ping-
  • On keyboard press Windows + R.
  • Enter CMD and click Ok.
  • At the command prompt, enter the Name of Linux server (PING) and hit enter.

 

Solution 2- Editing the host file.

 

Now you need to edit your host file with the correct IP and Linux server name.

 

Note- Linux file system is a case-sensitive file. Make sure that the right case is used.

 

  • Close QuickBooks.
  • Press Windows+E on the keyboard.
  • Navigate to Local Disc C:// >Windows folder >  System32 folder > driversfolder > etc folder.
  • Now use notepad to open host file.
  • You can add or edit IP of the server after the last IP is listed.
  • On your keyboard press Tab Key, Enter the name of the server.
  • Now save your file.

 

3- You were creating a backup

 

  • On the root of Local Drive C create a new folder.
  • On this newly created folder create and save a manual backup.

 

4- You were trying to restore the company file

 

Solution 1- Change the File Extension.

 

Usual extension of a Backup file is .qbw but in case it is .qbm or . adr then rename is to .qbw

 

  • Open the company file in QuickBooks and then on your keyboard press F2 for product info.
  • In the field of the location under File Information copy the location of the file. And paste it on a notepad.
  • Close QuickBooks.
  • Apply right click on Windows start button and from the list select Explore. Now simply navigate to the location posted on the notepad.
  • Apply right click on the file and click on rename.
  • Type a new name for your company and press enter.

 

Solution 2: Detection problems in file path or name

Make sure the file path and name us correct as QuickBooks needs everything correct to restore the file.

 

  • Correct : C:\Users\Fred\My Documents\QuickBooks data\Company Name.qbw
  • Incorrect : Business\James\James Documents\My Business $.Business

 

  • Open file menu and select Open or Restore
  • Click on Restore a backup copy and proceed by next.
  • Now browse to the location of the company file. And click on open.
  • In the window to restore a backup copy click next.
  • Remove any special character from the name and click save.
